I’m Gisèle, a Guild Certified FeldenkraisⓇ practitioner (since 2001) and Assistant Trainer. I’m the founder of Sunyata Movement Studio Inc.
I love helping people like you learn how to learn better movement, how to trust your senses, how to deepen your self-awareness and access your inner potential for flowing, effortless, natural movement.
I love doing this work because in helping people feel better, develop their ability to learn and grow in self-awareness as embodied, moving beings, I’m helping people live fuller, richer lives. I’m helping people live their dreams.

As a person who has spent his whole life completely ignoring his body’s signals and using lazy postures when sitting or standing, Gisele’s “Awareness through Movement” sessions have been a revelation. Actually taking the time to listen to your body and isolate different parts to feel the motions and the strains, it is amazing how many bad habits you discover, and how you will let parts of your body atrophy, making the other parts do all the work.
This is not intense physical workouts. It is gentle and done at your pace in your comfort zone.
It is as much (if not more) about teaching your nervous system to turn on the right switches as it is about actual physical movement.
Now when I lift up my old heavy dog or lift up my coffee cup, I try to notice what my body is doing and, as Gisele says, now think of doing it more smoothly, with less effort.
I look forward to continued lessons and continued “light bulb” moments as I turn my head without stressing my neck, or bend over without straining my back, and countless other movements we take for granted at our peril.

Over 25 years ago I completed a degree in physiotherapy. Within the first year of my practice, I knew I wanted to offer my clients more. I wanted to go deeper, to the root causes of inefficient, uncomfortable, unskilled movement habits I saw in my clients and myself (no one if perfect!).
In all my university studies, all the extra courses, seminars and workshops I took as a physiotherapist, there was nothing that seemed to quite get at the root of the complexity of human action.
Then I came across the Feldenkrais MethodⓇ.
Through this method, I’ve been of much greater service to the clients I work with than ever before.
Instead of looking at you through a therapeutic lens, figuring out what is “broken” and “fixing” it, you are viewed through a “learning” lens. I believe deeply what Dr. Feldenkrais knew: “Everyone is functioning perfectly —- given their perception of choices.” I don’t believe you are “broken”. I do believe that you can expand your perception of choices; that you can learn; that you can expand your repertoire of ways of moving and acting in the world.
With the understanding and knowledge to help you learn to trust your senses, and know how and what to pay attention to, I can help you move with more comfort, ease, grace and power.
By guiding your attention and moving in ways that inform you of what you are actually doing, not only what you think you are doing; by exploring novel ways of moving and using the power of your brain where all action is co-ordinated; by using information rich, hands-on movements and informative sensation; by accessing your natural intelligence — real, tangible, deep and lasting change can be yours.

When I’m not working or studying to become a better practitioner, you’ll likely find me outside either working out, walking the dogs, taking care of a huge yard and garden or just chilling with family. True, in the winter here in Winnipeg, Canada I won’t be outside as much. Instead I’ll probably be geeking out listening to some science podcast while cooking or reading science and/or philosophy books.
